Four-Leaf Steel-and-Glass Wine Enclosure

The signed elevation resolved a 143 1/8-by-132 5/8-inch assembly: a central double door flanked by one operable leaf on each side. Those four full-height glazed leaves sit in front of bottle racks, herringbone woodwork, a stone counter, and cabinetry, so the steel could not be treated as an independent storefront. Its verticals, clear openings, hardware zones, and swing paths had to support the room behind it.

D’Hierro coordinated directly with the original builder and Arveaux Interiors as the elevation evolved. The approved drawing specified four operable leaves, black steel, clear Cardinal LoE-366 insulated tempered glass, lever hardware on square rosettes, and minimal-profile hinges intended to blend into the finished assembly.

D’Hierro installed the perimeter frame in June 2023, while construction remained active around the flooring, millwork, and wine-room interior. At the contractor’s direction, the glazed door leaves were taken back down and stored while the frame stayed in the opening.

That choice separated progress from exposure. Surrounding trades could continue without repeatedly working around tall finished glass doors, while the most vulnerable components stayed away from dust, impacts, and moving equipment.

A successor builder eventually took over the residence and coordinated the remaining work. Once the wine room and adjacent finishes were ready, D’Hierro returned on June 16, 2026 to reinstall the protected door leaves. The builder reported the next day that the crew had done a great job and the doors looked great.

The finished composition is restrained by design: four slim black frames establish a full-height boundary without hiding the herringbone backing, stone, bottle storage, or cabinetry. Open-door views show the practical advantage of four operable leaves—broad access when the room needs it and a clear architectural glass plane when closed.
